The human eye sees the world in three dimensions and in vivid color. The camera and film perceive the world in two dimensions and in drab grays. I am challenged to take that lifeless, gray impression from film and transform it into a wholly textural image, full with shadow, depth and substance. Thereby, I can allow the observer to see life in the image which has been captured. This labor of love drives me to the medium of photography.
I have been largely self-taught in fine-art, black and white photography, having extensively studied the works and technical writings of many accomplished photographers. Also, instruction by and the influence of Howard Bond has been enlightening and appreciated.
A passion for photography and the darkroom began, for me, thirty years ago. Over the past decade I have been intensely devoted to personal development in and the pursuit of artistic photography. I involve myself in showing my work in group and solo art shows and displaying images in businesses, exhibitions and public venues.
I am inspired to play a role in carrying on the rich tradition of large format conventional photography as its history progresses through time. The creative process of capturing an image on film stimulates me. Then, through the science and art of the darkroom, I take pleasure in transforming the image into a traditional silver-gelatin photograph.
